Scientists Discover New Hangover Cure We Never Knew About

Pear Juice

Going out with friends and getting drunk is probably the dumbest thing any working person can do on a work day, because god knows those mind-drilling morning hangovers can ruin an entire day. Fortunately, scientist have discovered a new cure that aids in soothing a hangover, one few knew even existed.

There are already numerous hangover cures, many of which just don’t work for some people. The newly-discovered cure is… pear juice!

That’s right, drinking pear juice before a night of heavy drinking can reduce the alcohol level in your blood stream and prevent a hangover. Surprised?

More specifically, the study, which was carried out by researchers at Australia scientific research organisation CISRO, found that drinking 200 ml of pear juice “significantly reduced hang over symptoms and hugely helped trouble concentrating.” Eating whole pears could also produce similar results.

Manny Noakes, the researcher who led the study, said:

“It appears that the factors in Korean pears act on the key enzymes involved in alcohol metabolism, alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) to speed up alcohol metabolism and elimination or inhibition of alcohol absorption… In particular, reductions were seen in blood acetaldehyde levels, the toxic metabolic thought to be responsible for the hangover symptoms, with pear juice consumption.”

If pear juice is not your thing, electrolytes have been proven to help with hangovers by replenishing lost fluids. Beer or alcohol in general is a natural diuretic, meaning it trigger’s your body to pee.

Not only does alcohol make you lose substantial amount of fluids, but it also prevents your kidneys from absorbing water. Electrolyte consumption replenishes the lost fluids from urinating, keeping your body hydrated.

It is also important that you drink water throughout the day to cleanse the alcohol out of your system, but you probably already knew that. We would tell you to stop drinking in the first place, we know you won’t.

Getting back to pear juice as a hangover cure, Noakes said researchers will conduct further studies to see whether other varieties pears besides Korean pears had similar powers.
